ARTISTS INFLUENCE OF MUSIC STYLE

Meg Okell our chossen local artist listens to any thing and every thing but composition wise is definitely more influenced by acoustic indie sort of style, artists that use guitar and have high vocals. In paticular Ellie goulding, Lucy rose, Carina round and James Vincent McMorrow.

Society can have a major impact on artists and music.

What may influence a band or artists style?

  1. Technology- Through the yeras the development in technology has had a sugificant effects on music. They way it sounds, is created and what its played on. Instruments of the pre-industrial age gave us the recorder & the violin. Through the decades music technology kept on growing. The electronic age gave us even greater volume and created a path for the age of recording, this was obviously a great starting point for music and the revelopment of selling records and cds. The digital age has enabled us to perform complex sound manipulation, Completely changing the way something now sounds. All of these advancements would of effected the way that our artist now creates her music an shares it. For example we wouldnt of found are artist Meg if she hadnt uploaded a YouTube video. Which is quite a recent social media in the digital age.

  2. Large scale human movement-  Human migration, as well as trade and war, has moved both instruments and musical ideas around the world for centuries. These days, easy communication has a similar effect.

  3. Social and economic factors-This can influence the type of music by defining who plays it and who pays for it. Folk music is non professionals playing to their peers. The energy that drives musical changes can be seen as a matrix between technology, the movement of humans and ideas, and socio-economic factors. Think of any band, composer and musical style, and consider it in the context of this matrix. This theory does not predict or explain the specifics, but it does set out why the changes were possible. People write songs about wars etc that are going on, but also things in society like pregnancy etc if you experience really good or bad things in life, you can tend to express yourself a lot better with a song. So obviously everyone is part of society, and the things you experience in it prompt people to write songs. Music is almost a recording of what is happening in society at the time its produced. If we listened back to music dated around a significant social change. It would probably be relayed through the music.
