MUSIC VIDEO CONVENTIONS
Music Videos usually follow set conventions. The two main types of music video are Performance and Narative. performance usually focuses on the band or artist performing. Usually on a set, location or from there recent concerts. There are not many purely performance based music videos as the audience find it hard to connect or engage with the song or the video. Narative videos usually tell a story and the lyrics to song act as naration to support the video and help the audeince connect and make links to get an understanding. After learning about mise en scene though the media as coursework criteria it is again very important in creating a music video. For exaple lighting can either be high or low key to portray the artist in differnt ways. Low key usually portraying them as being darker and 'evil'. The clothes in which the artist wears is also very important most female artists appear as 'male gaze' this attracts the audience. Other artists use there outfits to show of their personality for example Lady Gaga. Editing is very important to the making of any media product. Editing a music video means the combination of differnt editing techniques, special effects and adding the non-digetic sound (recording of the song). Some other digetic sound may be included to make the video more realistic. Finally Camera shots and movements are also very important in music videos the most commonly used are close ups to see the lip syncing. Long shots are usually used to show off the outfit the artist is wearing.

When analysing narative music videos you need to look at audience positioning
Indie Folk Conventions
What I found When looking at different Indie Folk Music Videos:
When looking at Mumford and Sons and Gabrielle Aplin's Music video who come from the Indie folk genre I found that the location is usually remote and just has the band or artist with their instruments.
