HOW CD SALES HAVE CHANGED

Through the years CD sales have dramatically fallen due to the rise of digital downloads. In 1983 vinyls and cassettes were the dominant choice to purchase music. 1991 saw CDs become the most popular consumer choice. However 2013 showed that downloaded singles and albums took over. Below is a digital digram in the style of pie charts from each year showing the change and impact.

In 2000 before digital downloads in America CDs and records were making $36.9. However illegal downloads and sites such as itunes, there has been a decline in physical music sales.

On spotify listeners have to listen to an artists song 1,053,110 for them to earn a montly salary which is the same as minimum wage!

 

Artists now make most of their money from touring, concerts and royalties. Artists such as Jay-Z earn 1.5 million from a concert, however smaller artists can still easily make 10 thousand if enough people are attending their concerts.
