THE IMPACT OF THEORIES ON MY  RESEARCH & PLANNING

Reception Theory

Researching the two theories, it is important to understnad the impact that these will have on my planning and research for my digipak. Stuart Hall looked at the role of social postioning in the interpretaion of mass media by differnt social groups. Hall suggested three hypothetical interpretative codes/positions for the reader of a text. Because our media texts are all aimed at a target audience, the texts should read the way we create and intend them to be.

Jay G. Bulmer and Elihu Katz Uses and Gratification Theory

In 1974 Jay G. Bulmer and Elihu Katz highlighted five areas of gratification in media texts for audiences. Looking at there gratifications when creating my music video, digipak and magazine advert the only one that probably wont apple to my media texts is Inform and educate. Music is mostly likely produced to entertain. However due to the way people identify with artists music videos and media texts have become a whole new thing.
