RECREATING DIGIPAKS

For this task I aimed to create a replica Ellie Goulding digipak cover. The task took me longer than I thought it would and I learnt alot about what I need to watch out for when creating my own digipak.

Difficulties:

  • Font. It is difficult to find the exact font that was used for the digipak, and even if you do getting the exact differences between the letters is anther thing to think about.

  • One of the main problems i found was when I was looking for a photograph of the artist, the space above Ellie where the text most commonly goes and at the bottom sometimes either; overlayed her or couldnt be seen.

For example below is a picture I took during the recording of 'Who I Am'. If I was to follow the same layout as Ellie Goulding, the picture may leave enough space at the top of the image for dark text, but to place the name at the bottom, it would mostly likely be un readable. As can be seen below. Even the top of the image could of done with some more negative space.

MEG O'KELL

WHO I AM

MEG O'KELL

WHO I AM

Although with the second example I am not fond of the text going over the yop of Meg's hair, this sort of layout looks much better! However for my final digipak the photographs will be taken using one of the settings used in the final video, aswell as the costume that we pick and all other planned mise en scene.

Tick List for creating my Digipak.

Does the picture convey the music video?

Does the picture have space for the text at the top?

What our the colours like? Is it better in black and white?

What does the artist look like?
